Viola Farber (Student 1951 and 1953 Summer Sessions) (b.1931-d.1998)

Viola Farber was a German-born American modern dancer and choreographer who was a founding member of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, dancing with the company from 1953 to 1965. She was a student at Black Mountain College in 1951, returning in 1953 as the Cunningham Dance Company was established at the college. Following her time as a Cunningham dancer, she formed the Viola Farber Dance Company and choreographed most of its works through 1985. From 1988, Farber directed the dance program at Sarah Lawrence College, Bronxville, NY.
