This fall, we received funding from the Windgate Charitable Foundation to begin the pilot phase of our first-ever Design Apprenticeship program. We are proud to announce that artist and recent UNCA graduate Carley Brandau has been selected as the inaugural Design Apprentice for this program. This apprenticeship directly supports BMCM+AC’s redesign and renovation of our new gallery space in the building owned by the Center for Craft, Creativity and Design, and the adaptive conversion of our current 56 Broadway space into a research and study center. Through one-on-one training sessions, the program echoes the workshop structure of both the Bauhaus and Black Mountain College. Artist, designer, entrepreneur, and collector Randy Shull, commissioned to design and oversee the physical expansion of BMCM+AC, is the design mentor for the pilot program, which focuses on design and furniture building.
