An exhibition exploring functional work by potters who were at Black Mountain College in the 1950s including Shoji Hamada, Karen Karnes, Bernard Leach, Warren MacKenzie, M.C. Richards, Robert Turner, Peter Voulkos, David Weinrib, Marguerite Wildenhain, and many others. Curated by Bobby Gold.
Wednesday, Oct. 3 – An Uneasy Relationship: The Leach School, Black Mountain, and Traditional North Carolina Pottery, a presentation by Mark Hewitt, North Carolina potter and writer, at the Broadway Arts Building, 49 Broadway in downtown Asheville.
Admission: $18 / $15 students w/ID
Doors open at 6:00 p.m., Silent Auction (to benefit BMCM+AC), Live Music, Buffet, Cash Bar, Presentation by Mark Hewitt at 8:00 p.m.
Thursday, Oct. 25, 7:00 p.m. – Filmmaker Lucy Phenix presents a Sneak Preview of her new documentary From the Inside: The Work of Karen Karnes at the Fine Arts Theatre, 36 Biltmore Ave., downtown Asheville. Q + A session with the filmmaker following the film. Admission: $12, $9 BMCM+AC members/students w/ID
Saturday, Nov. 10, 10:00 a.m–4:00 p.m. – How to love this world: Poetry by hand and heart a workshop with Paulus Berensohn, at UNC Asheville. Co-sponsored by the UNC Asheville Office of Cultural & Special Events. Space is very limited. Call 350-8484 for registration information.
Friday, Nov. 30, 8:00 p.m. – A Dialogue with David Weinrib, Black Mountain College Potter. A rare opportunity to hear first-hand about the Black Mountain College pottery program and the amazing artists who worked at the school in the early 1950s as well as the post-BMC experimental community at Stony Point, NY. David Weinrib was BMC potter-in-residence and guest faculty along with Karen Karnes from summer 1952 through summer 1954. Admission: $7, $5 BMCM+AC members/students w/ID

Blue Spiral 1 is doing a companion show during November and December. National Studio Pottery Invitational will take a look at the next generation of studio potters – the potters in the prime of their careers who have in some way been influenced by the potters who were at Black Mountain College.
