Barbara Stone Rice was a student of Anni Albers during her final years leading the Weaving Workshop. This garment was constructed by Rice using a weaving that she developed as a student of Albers.
Before coming to BMC, Rice served in the Waves, which later provided her with support to attend college on the GI Bill. Barbara met and married Jack Rice and together they attended Black Mountain College in North Carolina, where she studied dance and weaving. They also lived in Mexico City for a year. Eventually they moved to Topanga, California in 1956, and raised four children. Barbara lived in Old Topanga for 52 years.
