Black Mountain Days a new memoir by Michael Rumaker is a wonderful  contribution to the growing body of work about legendary Black Mountain College, the experimental college which had an enormous impact on education and the arts in the latter half of the 20th century. The memoir offers a unique insider’s glimpse of life at the College from 1952-56 (its final four years) and brilliantly sketches personalities like Robert Creeley, John Chamberlain, Merce Cunningham, John Cage and Charles Olson. In Black Mountain Days Michael Rumaker takes the reader on a sequence of journeys, both creative and personal, from working class Philadelphia to America’s most significant progressive educational institution, Black Mountain College. Along the way, Rumaker found his vocation as writer and came to terms with his sexual identity. Black Mountain Days is published by Black Mountain Press, an imprint of the Black Mountain College Museum & Arts Center.
