John Cage’s ROARATORIO
This second installment in our listening session series, led by Executive Director Jeff Arnal, will focus on John Cage’s 1979 composition “___, _______circus on _________,” a score/system created to translate any book into a performance without actors. Cage’s first realization of this score, “Roaratorio: an Irish Circus on Finnegans Wake,” was a 62-track found sound collage paired with Cage’s reading of his lengthy mesostic based on James Joyce’s famous book as well as live Irish music.
