Jo Sandman (Student 1951 Summer Session) (b.1931)
Boston-based artist Jo Sandman’s practice has explored painting, drawing, experimental sculpture, installation, and photography. She studied with Robert Motherwell at Black Mountain College and Hans Hofmann at the University of California Berkeley. Sandman’s work is included in the permanent collections of the Addison Gallery of American Art, Dallas Museum of Fine Arts, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the Rhode Island School of Design, among others. She has received grants from the NEA and the Rockefeller Foundation as well as multiple fellowships and awards for her work. In addition to a robust studio practice, Sandman taught at Wellesley College, The Art Institute of Chicago, Massachusetts College of Art and Design, and many other visiting artist posts.
