It seems like this summer in Asheville is chock-full of craft-, design-, and architecture-centered programming.

Modernist Asheville?

John Rogers and Jim Samsel

In addition to last night’s illuminating discussion on the influence of Modernist Architecture on Western NC, here are a few of the other exciting things that have been and will be going on, both at BMCM+AC and around town:

July 13th is Activity Day at Odyssey Clayworks – Activities are free.

Wednesday, July 17 at 7:00pm: AIA Asheville hosts its summer lecture at The Orange Peel. Marlon Blackwell will speak on “Architecture Between Mountain and Valley” – tickets are $12

The Asheville Design Center’s 2013 Asheville DesignBuild Studio is working on the design and construction of a series of structures and spaces along the French Broad River in Asheville’s River Arts District. The session began May 28, and will continue through August 2.

Sunday, August 11 from 1:00 – 4:00pm: Here at BMCM+AC, Nicole McConville and Travis Medford will be leading “Cutting Spaces: Investigations in Collage and Architecture”, a workshop that will investigate architecture through the lens of collage. Materials and tools will be provided but participants are encouraged to bring their own source material as well. Space is limited! Call 828-350-8484 to register. $30 / $25 for BMCM+AC members & students w/ID.

And of course, we’ll continue with this motif into the fall with our annual conference, ReVIEWING BMC 5–this year’s theme is “Shaping Craft + Design”. Happy designing!
