On Sunday, August 11, Nicole McConville and Travis Medford will team up in our space once again to lead a collage workshop that will examine architecture through the lens of collage.

This past March, McConville and Medford provided an overview of the craft of collage in a workshop held in conjunction with our retrospective on John Urbain. Participants called the collaboration of Medford and McConville the “perfect pairing of styles and instruction.” One participant said that the workshop “offered more ideas and thoughts than I had imagined” while another said that it “expanded my creativity in new directions.”

Travs Medford is currently the Art Director at Integrative, an Asheville-based web design and marketing strategy firm. Nicole McConville is a Senior Editor at Lark Crafts, a local creative publishing group. She focuses on collage, assemblage, and encaustic work in her pieces, which have been shown at 5 Walnut Gallery, Mary Lou Zeek Gallery, and The Satellite Gallery.

As part of the programming for our current exhibition on the works of Harry Seidler, BMC alumnus and Australia’s most influential Modernist architect, this workshop will mobilize architectural imagery and spaces both imagined and real as inspirations. Join us as we approach this exciting craft from a different angle. We welcome participants of all artistic interests and levels. Materials are provided, but feel free to bring what inspires you.
