Today we received a morning visit from the Asheville Newcomers Club! Club members new to Asheville and those just looking to learn more about their hometown took in a short documentary about the history and philosophy of Black Mountain College. Afterwards, Program Director Alice Sebrell answered questions and gave a gallery tour of our current exhibition, Shaping Craft + Design.
Club members were especially taken with Ruth Asawa’s 1954 untitled hanging wire sculpture–there was a big gasp when Alice revealed that the sculpture was crocheted from one piece of iron wire! This exhibition will be up until January 4th. Feel free to learn more about the pieces on display here, or just drop by.
