BMCM+AC and Asheville Free Media are collaborating to produce a special simulcast event on the roles and challenges of free press and independent media today. This community awareness-raising program will feature a panel discussion with:
Nelda Holder, contributing editor to the Mountain Xpress
Mark West, Chair and Professor of Mass Communication at UNCA
Eric Mattox, President of the Board of Directors of Friends of Community Radio
Angie Newsome, Director, and Editor of Carolina Public Press
Cecil Bothwell, Asheville City Council, former news reporter, and community radio host
The event is free and open to the public. There is a suggested donation of $5-$15 at the door. Proceeds will benefit Asheville Free Media, Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center, and Carolina Public Press. A simulcast of the event can be heard on Asheville Free Media at ashevillefm.org from 7:00-9:00 pm on May 30.
