Collaboration was an integral part of the creative process at BMC. This ELEMENTS workshop, facilitated by contemporary collagist Travis Medford, will explore the collaborative possibilities of collage. Participants will create collaborative collages in dialogue with each other. This workshop is presented in conjunction with Black Mountain COLL(A)GE (May 29 – September 5, 2026), an exhibition exploring medium, method, and memory.
ELEMENTS of BMC Series
ELEMENTS OF BMC is a workshop series that explores the fundamental parts of creative practice at Black Mountain College, highlighting a range of artistic mediums and techniques. The series investigates the role of these elements in shaping the college’s legacy and lasting influence on contemporary art.
About Travis Medford:
Travis Medford is an Asheville-based graphic designer and multimedia artist searching for the poetic and sublime in materials such as: found images, typography, paper, paint, and wood. His primary area of interest is collage with occasional excursions into the world of painting, sculpture and printmaking. He graduated with a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art / MICA in 1995.
