In commemoration of John Cage’s centennial, percussionists Jason DeCristofaro, Laura Franklin and Matthew Richmond will play Cage’s Third Construction composed in 1941. The fascinating array of percussion instruments used in this piece include: tom tom drums, conch shell, maracas, wooden ratchet, graduated tin cans, Chinese cymbal, claves, quijadas, cricket callers, teponzatli, Indo-Chinese rattle and more. In a separate performance, guitarist Shane Perlowin will play an original composition for solo classical guitar dedicated to John Cage and based on his prepared piano music.
