Born in England with direct family ties to Spode China, Hewitt is one of North Carolina’s most gifted potters. His work is in the collections of the Renwick Gallery, Smithsonian Institution and the National Arboretum in Washington, D.C., the Weisman Museum in MN, the Chrysler Museum in Norfolk, VA, and the Mint Museum, Ackland Museum and Cameron Art Museum, all in North Carolina. Recently he co-curated (with Nancy Sweezy) the 2005/06 exhibition The Potter’s Eye: Art and Tradition in North Carolina Pottery at the NC Museum of Art in Raleigh. UNC Press published the companion book.
